Bike the Drive

April 20, 2009

Once all the rain stops (Wednesday?) it’s time to pull out your *nearly* new bike and Bike the Drive!  Again, so for only two members of Team Audey but sign up and ride with us and I’ll throw in a signature Audey tank!

The race is May 24th from 5:30-9:30 in the morning. They shut down Lakeshore Drive so we can finally have the pleasure of riding it without cars!  There are a couple route options– you can go for 15 mile loops either up to Hollywood or down to the Museum of Science and Industry and then back to the starting position.  You can go all 30 miles by going up to Hollywood and then down to the Museum and then back to the starting point. You can repeat as many times as you like in the allowed time.

Bike the Drive benefits the Active Transportation Alliance that works to improve conditions for bicycling, walking and transit and engage people in healthy and active ways to get around.

Email me if you are interested in biking with Team Audey!  jess.audey@audey.com

Equality Now

January 9, 2009

One of my New Year’s resolutions was to start giving back to the community around me.  Being in the fashion industry, I love clothes and shoes probably more than your average person, but I also see the superficial side.  I do feel that art in general has a great power to bring awareness about issues on a large scale and that’s why  I am very excited to announce that all sales starting this year will have a portion of the proceeds going to Equality Now.

Equality Now

Equality Now is an international organization “founded in 1992 to work for the protection and promotion of the human rights of women around the world.”  Through diverse campaigns, Equality Now is taking action on numerous human rights violations that happen to women just like us – in this country and every other.  From their website, in India, a 10-year-old girl is rescued by a flight attendant who notices her crying. Her father has sold her to the 60-year-old Saudi Arabian man sitting next to her for the equivalent of US$240.

In the United States, a 51-year-old woman is stabbed 19 times and killed by her former boyfriend as she waits inside a courthouse to extend an order of protection. Twice before he had been charged with harassment. Both times the charges were dropped.

As women, it’s time for us to stand up and really demand equality.  No one else is going to do it for us- it starts with each of us.

Visit their site to join their campaigns and to take action.
